Shaheen's Department Store Postcard

Shaheen's Department Store is a beloved family-run business that opened in the Portland neighborhood over 100 years ago in 1922. It's catered to working-class communities by providing quality clothing and uniforms at affordable prices. Known for its personalized customer service, Shaheen's has been a favored clothing store to many families in the area.

Though the business has expanded over the years to include locations in other parts of Louisville, the original 1922 storefront on Portland Ave still remains. A mural depicting "Sam Shaheen's", captioned "For Louisville's Working Man" lives 10 feet up on the side of the building as you approach it coming up the road. Shaheen's has been in operation for over a century, standing as a reminder to the rich heritage and tight-knit community spirit of the Portland neighborhood.
